This is a must do. It's a tad pricey but well worth it. It's a day long event; 3 hr to Silverton, 2 hours in Silverton, 3 hours back to Durango in time for dinner. The views are incredible and the sounds of the steam engine take you back into the day. This narrow gauge, that is the distance between the rails, was built during winter, in 1881, in 9 months. When you see the terrain; you'll understand the feat of this accomplishment. A must do! www.durangotrain.com

Hi there!
What breath taking views of just a small part of CO. That's so interesting to know the history behind the building of those tracks (ie, 1881 in the winter?)(hopefully you got to see "old photos" of this on postcards or something). Old towns are big on that, just like here in Flagstaff. I'm glad you & your family had a safe/great trip! I feel like I just went on a mini-vacation :^)
